Travel Essentials: Departure Formalities
Prohibited for Export
- Bacteria, harmful insects, animals, plants (and their products), food, drugs, and other articles from epidemic- stricken areas if such articles may be harmful to human beings and animals
- Counterfeit money and forged securities
- Cultural relics and relics not permitted by the Chinese for export
- Endangered species and protected animals and plants (including specimens), their seeds and breeding materials
- Film that is exposed but undeveloped
- Firearms, weapons, imitation weapons, ammunition (with prior authorization only)
- Fresh food (all fruit, tomatoes, eggplant and red peppers)
- Narcotics (including: opium, morphine, heroin, marijuana)
- Pornographic material
- Radio transmitters and secure communication devices
- Subversive literature, films, tapes, negatives, records, audio and video recordings, laser optical video-discs, computer storage media and other articles containing materials against public order and morality and harmful to China politically, economically, culturally, or ethically or considered by the Chinese as "secrets"
Export Restrictions
- Antiques must be accompanied by an authorization seal or letter from the Department of Cultural Relics. Items more than 100 years old must be accompanied by an export form
- Cultural relics: travelers must show receipts
- Currency: Travelers may leave with a maximum of 20,000.yuan in cash. (Travelers should keep receipts after changing their money into Chinese currency if they want to be able to change money back to their own currency before departure.)
Departure Tax
An airport departure tax of RMBY90 is usually included in the cost of the ticket.
